Verizon fiber optic overlay project broadband TV
Verizon fiber optic project;
This project would provide competition for TV, telephone, and Internet service to our existing cable companies. The fiber optic overlay project was presented early last year at a city council meeting by Verizon representatives.
Here is a link to a news release with a description of the proposed service, along with prices.

I cannot find any info on the web from an authoritative source with an update on the progress of this service installation. There are references to a delay of the deployment in Fontana, blaming the Cucamonga city council for the hold up.

Mabye someone in a position to know the status of this project would enlighten us before we sign a long term contract with another service.

From Fibre Promotions.com
FiOS (Fiber Optic Service) is a fiber to the premises (FTTP) telecommunications service, originally piloted in Keller, Texas, and now offered in some areas of the United States by Verizon. According to Verizon, “Fios” is an Irish (Gaelic) word for “knowledge”. In mailings to New Jersey customers, however, Verizon states that it stands for “fiber-optic service.” Verizon has attracted consumer and media attention in the area of broadband Internet access as the first major U.S. carrier to offer such a service. In their rapidly expanding coverage areas, FiOS provides telephone, Internet and video services to the subscriber’s premises. Some areas do not have the video service at this time due to franchise agreement, and some areas do not have any type of
FiOS service at all due to underground electrical conduits.
