There are many ways to send your message with large format printing.  By the nature of its size its sure to get your attention.  Most designs use the material for its print quality and suitability for the application.  Mesh banner material is widely used for outdoor applications in windy areas.  The perforations reduce wind resistance and lift.  Mesh also presents a matte finish reducing glare in high light uses.

Another one of my favorite uses for large format printed mesh banner material is the faux store fronts.  In this example at Faison Island in Newport Beach CA. a store renovation is masked from the shoppers.

Graphics are often used on construction barriers previewing the new business; however these are usually short term and only come with the new tenant.  Shopping areas where store closures caused by the recession may be keep attractive for the remaining businesses with large format printing.  Here is an example of effective use of large format print for vacant stores.

B3DigiGrafx 800.624.1691 Designing step and repeat banners entails more that a simple layout of your logos.  The purpose of the step and repeat backdrop is to display and preserve the event and feature its sponsors. Photos will be distributed to outlets depending on the scale of your event.  These images will persist for years on the web and in print, so attention to there design and deployment are worth your effort.

The lighting of the backdrop along with the flash photography must be considered when planning your set-up. As you can see from these Palm Springs Film Festival examples flash photography is the biggest problem.  It is difficult to control the lighting when many photographers are shooting away simultaneously.  One device you may consider is a set-up where the step and repeat is presented at a slight angle to the head on flash. The backdrop may be either canted from bottom to top, or set at an angle to avoid a perpendicular photo shot.  The examples illustrate the difference between the angled shot and the face on shot.  Hot spots are less of a problem with the angled shot.

The long red carpet step and repeat backdrop presents the biggest problem.  For best economy you print a continuous banner and are stuck with a lot of face on conditions.  The number of photographers and the speedy passing of their subjects are less than ideal for photography.  Given that the images persistence is so long where many millions of views will occur, investment in a more sophisticated step and repeat backdrop may be worth the added investment.

Consider producing your long red carpet backdrops in segments where they may be set at angles to the flash sources.  The added expense in your framed set-up will pay back many times over in the improved quality of the photography.  You may want to set-up an example beforehand to test shoot your colors and the background lighting.

Time constraints are always at event set-up time.  Just remember the results will be out there for years, along with your credits.

One of the best collections of US Made aircraft spanning the earliest days of aviation to the jet age resides at the Yanks Air Museum in Chino California. The aircraft are restored on-site to flying condition with special attention paid to the cockpit detail.

There are several great examples of storied aircraft including a F86 just like the type flown by my godfather in Germany. As a youngster I visited his air National Guard group at Logan airport in late 50′s and sat in the cockpit of his aircraft.

The New York Times reports that Hyundai Gets Jump on Cash for Clunkers and is driving 10 percent of its new car sales. The Mission is owned and operated by California State Parks System. Exhibit Coordinator Don Amos working closely with JoAnne Culbertson chairwoman of the Prelado de los Tesoros Visitor Center Committee, which raised most of the $800,000 needed to design and build the exhibits. Six years in the making, the exhibit is one of the most extensive exhibit projects ever undertaken by California State Parks, according to a state spokesman.

The DuPont Artistri was the ideal print format for the Rickman art. Design specifications for the unique banner frames were submitted to B3 ‘s fabrication team. This project was one of the last elements for the competition of the visitor’s center so meeting Don’s delivery was critical.
